July 2012 – From 1972 to 1973, Porsche built the 911 Carrera RS 2.7. For the first time a Porsche 911 was carrying the Carrera lettering. “Carrera” should remind of the race “Carrera Panamericana”.
The distinctive feature of the RS is the “ducktail” – the engine cover lid with its spoiler. Other distinctive features: flared wheel arches & Fuchs Rims.
The RS has been developed for homologation in racing. Initially, 500 pieces were produced and sold immediately. At the end, 1590 cars were built. In racing the RS achieved many international successes.
